Categories of Social Grants

The information provided hereunder is from the Budget of 2026 with regard to the payment dates of DSD/SASSA benefits. The percentage can be varied by the government as per its discretion; log on to sassa.gov.za or call 0800 60 10 11.
Child Support Grant
R580 per month, from April 2026 onwardsPersons aged below 18 years where the principal caregiver fulfills the income test requirement
Will qualify to receive an allowance per qualified child. This amount has been evaluated using the budget payment rate for the year 2026/2027 on sassa.gov.za.
Grant for an Older Person
R2,400 per month commencing April 2026Application for people aged 60 years and above from South Africa who qualify for the means test
The amount is usually paid at the start of each month using the SASSA 3-Day payment method. Pension history is not required for any private pension schemes.
Disability Grant
R2,400 per month from April 2026 onwardsconfirmation pendingIt is meant for people who have disabilities that prevent them from working.
It requires SASSA Medical Report. It is conducted on the second day of each month after Older Persons Grants.
Grant for Dependent Care
R2,400 per month starting April 2026Subject to confirmationParents/Guardians caring for disabled children
It is NOT a Child Support Grant and needs proof of disability. Please apply through SASSA with proof of the disability of the child.
Grant for Foster Child
R1,290 per month from April 2026 onwardshas to be confirmedThe above grant is meant for those foster parents who are acknowledged by the court
Child Support Grant is different from the above one hence you have to go through court order to get this one.
SRD (Social Relief of Distress)
R370 per month (verified)Temporarily assists the unemployed who qualify on assessment.
